Illinois
To be able to fully utilize Fingercheck’s all-in-one payroll services in Illinois, you must be registered as an employer with the Illinois Department of Revenue (IDOR) and Department of Employment Security (IDES), and provide us with your Illinois Unemployment Account Number and Unemployment Insurance (UI) Contribution Rate to allow us to properly draft and file your state taxes.
Registering as a New Employer in Illinois
In order to obtain Illinois Payroll Account Numbers for your business, you must first register online using MyTax Illinois portal. Once you finish the registration process, you will be assigned an Illinois Unemployment Account Number and Taxpayer ID Number. When starting the process, here are the steps that you will need to follow:
Click on the REGISTRATION tab, followed by “Register a new business”
Under Illinois Business Registration Application, click “Identify your business” to start filing the Illinois Business Registration Application, Form REG-1.
After submitting the application, you'll receive an email with your authorization code and specific instructions on how to activate your MyTax Illinois account.
Once logged in, you may complete the REG-UI-1 application to register for unemployment tax.
Going About Locating Account Numbers and Tax Rates
If you log into your Mytax Illinois Account, you can view what your designated account number is. Another place where your account number can be found is on a filed Employer’s Contribution & Wage Report, known as a Form UI-3/40.
Alternatively, on the Notice of Contribution Rate that the Illinois Department of Employment Security mails out to businesses annually, your account number will be printed.
Logging into your Mytax Illinois Account will allow you to view what your specific Taxpayer ID Number is. Alternatively, it will also appear on any Illinois Withholding Income Tax Return, known as a Form IL-941, that you have already filed.
Illinois Unemployment Contribution Rate
If you are a new business starting for the first time, you must first complete the registration process using the Mytax Illinois portal in order to have a Contribution Rate assigned to you. Be mindful that the tax rate can vary depending on which industry you operate in. The UI Contribution Rate includes the Fund Building Rate.

-Department of Revenue Withholding Tax Number
To find your Withholding Tax Number, you can go to the Department of Revenue's MyTaxAccount portal and select the option "Search Account Number/Filing Frequency" in the "Quick-Links" tab. You can log in to your Department of Workforce Development account to view your Unemployment Insurance account number.
