Fingercheck offers several security features to prevent buddy punching from occurring. Buddy punching is when an employee clocks in or out of work for another employee who is not present. This is a form of fraud that allows employees to get paid for hours they didn't work, and can negatively impact a business's bottom line. We take extra precautions when it comes to mobile punching security.

Set security features

  1. Log in to Fingercheck as an Administrator.

  2. Click the EMPLOYEES tab, and click on the employee's number to open the employee's profile.

  3. In the profile, click Self Service under Personal.

  4. Click the Edit icon (pencil) in the top-right corner.

  5. In the Mobile Punch section under Clock in Options, select the options you want to enable for your employees:

    • Allow Mobile Punch

    • Do Not Require GPS On Mobile

    • Take Photo On Mobile Punch

  6. To restrict employee mobile punching to each individual employee's own cell phone (so that they cannot give their coworkers their login information to punch on their behalf), enter the employee's mobile device ID number into the Mobile Device ID field.

See the procedure below to learn how to find the ID number.

Once the feature is enabled, the employee will not be able to punch in or out from any other mobile device ID.

How employees can find their mobile device ID

  1. Log into the Fingercheck mobile app.

  2. Tap the hamburger icon to open the menu.

  3. Tap About.

  4. On the About page, tap Show Device ID.

  5. Tap Send, and send the ID to your supervisor.

Facial recognition

Facial recognition is a great feature that requires employees to take a photo every time they make a mobile punch.

Employee set up to take photos on mobile punch

  1. Log in to Fingercheck as an Administrator.

  2. Click the EMPLOYEES tab, and click on the employee's number to open the employee's profile.

  3. In the profile, click Self Service under Personal.

  4. Click the Edit icon (pencil) in the top-right corner.

  5. In the Mobile Punch section under Clock in Options, select Take Photo On Mobile Punch.

  6. Scroll down to the section Face Recognition and copy the employee’s profile pic or upload a photo to use for face recognition on the tablet or mobile app.

The image used should include the employee’s daily accessories which may include glasses, hats, scarves, etc.

  7. Click Save.

Once the feature is enabled, the employee will still be able to punch in or out without taking a photo. The admin and/or supervisor will receive an alert to review the time card.

Please note: For facial recognition to work with the employee’s photo punch, the employee must open and agree to the Biometric Consent Agreement. If the employee does not confirm this agreement, the photo punches will not be recorded. Check out How to Enable Employee Biometric Consent for more details on employee biometric consent.

Set up an exception policy for facial recognition

You can set up an exception policy to alert you on their timecard about a photo punch.
