How to Create Early and Late Exceptions

In a perfect world everybody would show up to work on time, nobody would leave early, and employees would never deviate from their assigned schedules. However, life is far from predictable and the same applies to people. FingerCheck makes it easy for you to keep track of employees who arrive and leave early/late by creating exception policies.

FingerCheck is built with many different exception types that flag every kind of abnormal punch imaginable, whether it be missing in or out punches, unscheduled punches, or over/under hours punches. In this guide, we teach how to create a basic exception policy that works with your employees' schedules to notify you of early and late in/out punches. To set up your policy, follow these steps:
 
  • Log onto your FingerCheck account and navigate over to the “Setup” tab. From the drop down menu on the top left of the page, select “Policies Menu.”
  • From the policies menu, select "Exceptions Policies" and then click on the yellow "Add" button to create your new policy.
  • ​You will be brought to the exception policy information window to begin filling out your exception policy. Fill out the fields as follows - create a "Code" to label your policy and a "Description" that describes your policy. Select the exception type you wish to make from the "Exception Type" drop down menu.

  • To adjust how urgent the exception appears in your dashboard, you can choose from Low, Medium, or High by the "Exception Severity." Here we give you an idea of how all three would look - as you can see the color changes according to the level you pick: 
  • When you are finished click "Save." Now you will see your exception policy.
  • Now for your policy to actually take effect, you will need to make sure that the schedule is set up properly, specifically the "start minute window" fields which specify how many minutes before or after the scheduled start and end time should be flagged as an exception. After you have set your limits, the system will know when to trigger an exception according to the minute window times you have set. For more information, see our article on setting up schedules 
Once you've checked over your schedule, navigate over to your employees' master profile to double check whether the start date matches the start date of your exception policy. After you complete these requirements, your exception policy should be fully running! You will receive notifications when your employees arrive or leave early or late.
